Look at this picture of an adult learning to swim.

Tell me about a skill you learned as an adult.

How did you feel while you were learning it?

Why do some people find it harder to learn new things as they get older?

Respuesta modelo

A skill I learned as an adult is swimming properly. I could float as a child, but I only took real lessons when I was thirty.

At first I felt embarrassed, because the other people in the class were much faster than me. After a few weeks, though, I started to notice my progress, and that changed everything: I actually looked forward to the lessons.

As for why learning gets harder with age, I don't think the main reason is our brain. It's our time and our pride. Adults have jobs and families, so practice is difficult to fit in, and we're less used to being beginners. Children make mistakes all day; adults try to avoid them.

A skill I learned…, At first I felt…, As for why…

Part 4 · 2:00

Look at a picture of someone working on a laptop in a café. Tell me about a time you had to work or study in a noisy place. How did you feel about it? Why do you think more people now choose to work away from the office?
